Protection and WASH services to IDPs – NCA 1

Location: Badakshan Total Beneficiaries: 12975 Main Activities: This project aimed to provide WASH services to the IDPs and vulnerable host communities in BDK (Jurm, Baharak, and Faizabad) districts to provide lifesaving WASH tools and awareness for the prevention of disease caused by bad sanitation. Providing short-term employment opportunities to the destitute population of targeted districts through working on schemes and trenches and water resources to vulnerable communities. Goals: Hygiene improvement, access to life-saving wash services, supporting immediate needs of vulnerable communities. Key achievements: The project in Badakhshan province provided crucial support to 12,975 families through WASH and nutrition services. In collaboration with OCHA and DoRR, 450 hygiene kits were distributed to internally displaced households, while four MHM training sessions empowered women and girls with essential knowledge of personal hygiene. Additionally, the rehabilitation and construction of two water sources in Faizabad's Chata and Abo Muslim villages improved access to clean water for approximately 140 families, reducing their dependence on contaminated river and canal water. Significant strides were also made in addressing Gender-related issues with the establishment of three safe spaces in Faizabad, Jurm, and Baharak. These centers, supported by DoWA, the governor's house, and police departments, provided MHPSS and legal services to violence survivors, leading to the identification and resolution of 85 cases during the rollover period. Moreover, a comprehensive KAP assessment gauged community awareness of violence prevention, informing tailored interventions, while 427 NFI kits were distributed to vulnerable women and girls, survivors of violence, and others in need.
