Project: Gulmaki Network Project March 2019 till February 2022
Gulmaki network is a project to reduce girl’s school dropout and enhance girl’s enrollment and access to education at the secondary level in Kabul (Chahar Asyab and Khak Jabar, Nangarhar (Behsud and Sorkhrud) and Parwan (Jabulseraj and Chaharikar) provinces. This project starts on 1st of march 2019 and will ended on 28th February 2022. This project will enable girls in secondary level to continue their education and prevent drop outs after receiving counselling and support. One of the project activities is creation of coordination hub in each province that will oversee the coordination of advocacy champs group meetings and awareness session for target population of the project. these hubs will be used to facility meetings to increase awareness of the community members, encourage more families to let their daughter continue their education to the higher levels, discuss existing community problems. These hubs will be established in the community center or within the school building were relevant parties can hold meetings.
Introduction of Advocacy Group to Nangarhar Governor

The Coordination meeting was conducted with Nangarhar Governor Mr. Shah Mahmood ‘Miakhel” on December 01, 2019 in Governor House Nangarhar province. In total 11 participants were from Advocacy group and AWEC GMN project staff. First Ms. (Hameeda Hamidi) GN project coordinator explained overall activities of AWEC in Nangarhar province. Nangarhar Governor Shah Mahmoud Miakhel also praised the work of the Afghan Women’s Educational Center and talked about education as the basis of the community also give some life examples about his life that education change humans. He has stressed education is the foundation of the community.He encouraged the advocacy team to work together and avoid the absence of girls in schools.The Governor said “I will collaborate and support the GN project Advocacy team in Nangarhar and will direct the relevant governmental organizations to contribute and well support you”.
Kabul GN project team meeting with Governor Mr. Mr. Yagob Haidari
GN project program team met Kabul Governor on Tuesday, August 27, 2019. During the meeting, two sides discussed the project ongoing activities in two districts of Kabul, Chaharasia, and Khakjabar. This project will establish advocacy groups in Kabul and two other provinces Parwan and Nangarhar to fully cooperate with parents of girls drop out of school to let their daughters continue education. Afghan women and girls are largely uneducated and limited to their homes, and face various types of violence; threats, torture, early marriages, honor killing, and rape and are often the most marginalized and vulnerable part of society. In the end, Mr. Yagob Haidari is promised he will support from the GN project advocacy activities.
Coordination hub in Parwan
Coordination hub will act as connecting bridge between parents and school shuras (PTAs) and to district council. Establishing regular meeting with relevant parties for advocacy purposes. Communicate the results with the relevant higher government authorities. Connect all regular meeting parties to the governor office of each district who in turn can pave the ground for further improvements on girl’s education in coordination with all other government agencies and stakeholders. GN champion will conduct initial meetings with community leaders, parents and teachers to introduce the purpose of project advocacy meetings and their involvement in targets districts. AWEC intends to share challenges and problems outlined by the local advocacy groups with ACBAR, national and international NGOs.
Nangarhar GN project team meeting with Governor Mr. Shah Mahmood Maikhel:
A coordination meeting holds with Nangarhar governor Mr. Shah Mahmood Maikhel on GN project on going activities that play a significant role in girls’ education.An extensive discussion carried out by Ms, Hamida Hamidi GN project coordinator regarding the good implementation of the GN project in Surkhrod and Behsod districts.During the meeting, Nangarhar governor Shah Mahmood Miakhel appreciated the Afghan Women’s Education Center(AWEC) that provide education services for the women. He has stressed education is the foundation of the community.
The governor said, “I will cooperate and support the GN project team in Nangarhar along with other governmental authorities”.In the end, the governor handed over the GN project team some educational books as a gift.
Coordination-hubs in Nangarhar province
Coordination-hubs in Nangarhar province are operational to coordinate district level response to girl’s access to education. GN project coordinator Hamida Hamidi, had a meeting with the head of the education department Mr. Hasibullah Shinwari on July 18, 2019, with the active participation of school principals, teachers and education officers in education directorate office. In the meeting, it has been discussed to establishing two coordination-hubs one in Bebe Mariam high school located in Surkh Rod and another school Nahid Shaheed in Behsood. AWEC is a non-profit national organization that is focusing on reducing vulnerability and building capacities among marginalized communities with a special focus on women and children rights
Parwan GN project team Meet with Parwan Governor Mr. Fazl-u-din Ayar
The Parwan project GN team had a meeting with the governor about the project activities. The project Coordinator presents a brief introduction to the governor about GN project activities. The Governor was happy from the project activities in Parwan province. He highlights that these kinds of projects are very useful for the women’s education path and hope to continue this type of projects across the country. The governor announced his full support from GN project implementation in Parwan province.
