She Writes is a project jointly implemented by Alert International (lead) and AWEC. This project will be implemented in four provinces including Kabul, Herat, Nangarhar and Herat provinces.The project aims at strengthening the ability of private media in Afghanistan to accurately and effectively report women’s stories and hold authorities accountable. It envisages to do so through building the capacity of women journalists on responsible and objective reporting and also by facilitating their placements and improving their status within media industry.A total of 70 (50 female and 20 male) journalists will benefit from this two years project and 15 media outlets will indirectly benefit through the course of this project’s implementation.
The first training of the second cohort being conducted
During the month of August, AWEC conducted the first journalism training for female journalist in Herat province. This three day- training (from 26-28 of August) was conducted at the AWEC provincial office in Herat city. The participants were 7 female journalists, journalism trainees and journalism graduates.
The training run by Danish Karokhel, Pahjwok Afghan News. The training included both classroom learning and sharing of good practices. The participatory approach consisted of presentations, experience sharing, exercises and group work. The participants found the training effective and useful.
Participants were provided with the opportunity to practice those skills that they have learned during the training.
