UNGA conference in New York 22 September 2019

Threats to girls’ education differ between countries and communities and local education champions like Malala Fund’s Deema Hiram are best placed to identify solutions. Last week at the UN General Assembly, Deema shared about her experience working with girls affected by conflict in Afghanistan. This week Deema is back at work, fighting to change long-held cultural beliefs that prevent girls from reaching their full potential.

As a Malala Fund champion, Deema meets with parents, teachers, government officials and community leaders to change long-held cultural beliefs that prevent girls from reaching their full potential. This week, she is taking her fight for girls’ education to the United Nations General Assembly where she will encourage world leaders to invest in every girl’s future.
