Gulmaki network is a project to reduce girl’s school dropout and enhance girl’s enrollment and access to education at the secondary level in Kabul (Chahar Asyab and Khak Jabar, Nangarhar (Behsud and Sorkhrud) and Parwan (Jabulseraj and Chaharikar) provinces. This project starts on 1st of march 2019 and will ended on 28th February 2022.
This project will enable girls in secondary level to continue their education and prevent drop outs after receiving counselling and support.
One of the project activities is creation of coordination hub in each province that will oversee the coordination of advocacy champs group meetings and awareness session for target population of the project. these hubs will be used to facility meetings to increase awareness of the community members, encourage more families to let their daughter continue their education to the higher levels, discuss existing community problems.
These hubs will be established in the community center or within the school building were relevant parties can hold meetings.
The main purpose of creation of coordination-hub in all three districts are;
1- Coordination hub will act as connecting bridge between parents and school shuras (PTAs) and to district council.
a) Establishing regular meeting with relevant parties for advocacy purposes.
b) Communicate the results with the relevant higher government authorities.
2- Connect all regular meeting parties to the governor office of each district who in turn can pave the ground for further improvements on girl’s education in coordination with all other government agencies and stakeholders.
3- GN champion will conduct initial meetings with community leaders, parents and teachers to introduce the purpose of project advocacy meetings and their involvement in targets districts.
4- AWEC intends to share challenges and problems outlined by the local advocacy groups with ACBAR, national and international NGOs.
Coordination-hubs in Nangarhar province
Coordination-hubs in Nangarhar province are operational to coordinate district level response to girl’s access to education. GN project coordinator Hamida Hamidi, had a meeting with the head of the education department Mr. Hasibullah Shinwari on July 18, 2019, with the active participation of school principals, teachers and education officers in education directorate office.
In the meeting, it has been discussed to establishing two coordination-hubs one in Bebe Mariam high school located in Surkh Rod and another school Nahid Shaheed in Behsood. AWEC is a non-profit national organization that is focusing on reducing vulnerability and building capacities among marginalized communities with a special focus on women and children rights.
Kabul GN project team meeting with Governor Mr. Mr. Yagob Haidari
GN project program team met Kabul Governor on Tuesday, August 27, 2019. During the meeting, two sides discussed the project ongoing activities in two districts of Kabul, Chaharasia, and Khakjabar. This project will establish advocacy groups in Kabul and two other provinces Parwan and Nangarhar to fully cooperate with parents of girls drop out of school to let their daughters continue education.
Afghan women and girls are largely uneducated and limited to their homes, and face various types of violence; threats, torture, early marriages, honor killing, and rape and are often the most marginalized and vulnerable part of society. In the end, Mr. Yagob Haidari is promised he will support from the GN project advocacy activities.
